To add a custom character to be considered as the word limit, choose <switchinline select="sys"><caseinline select="MAC"><emph>%PRODUCTNAME - Preferences</emph></caseinline><defaultinline><emph>Tools - Options</emph></defaultinline></switchinline><emph> - %PRODUCTNAME Writer - General</emph> and add the character into the <emph>Additional separators</emph> field. By default, this field contains em dash (—) and en dash (–).

A search using a regular expression will work only within one paragraph. That is, a \n will match a line break within a paragraph.

The regular expression for the end of a paragraph is a dollar sign ($). The regular expression for the start of a paragraph is a caret and a period (^.). The regular expression for an empty paragraph is ^$.
